Hydrotherapy Pool

Pool

It is widely known among physical therapists that gentle movement in warm water is among the most effective antidotes for the type of muscle weakness and contraction that affects many of our residents.

Water relaxes clients in ways that other forms of therapy cannot, reducing tension, pain and discomfort and increasing range of motion and strength.  It also improves muscle control and endurance and enhances body awareness, sensory organization and coordination.  And water makes us feel good, bringing emotional well-being along with the physical benefits.

For many years, thanks to the generosity of Assistance League,  hydrotherapy was the Hillside House signature program.  But in 2003, in consideration of serious financial difficulties, we were forced to close the pool so that we could maintain our physical therapy program.

Now, we hope to gather the money - $35,000 - to open, operate and staff the pool and the hydrotherapy program once again.  We hope that you will consider making a donation - of any size - to help us get our residents back in the pool.  This recreational activity promises greater physical freedom for those who live with severe physical limitations.
